Bronze, dark patina with green nuances. Sign. ' 'Roger Godchaux', bez. 'cire perdue' , Sign. by the foundry 'Susse Fr(èr)es Ed(i)t(eur)s Paris' and round stamp by the foundry. H. 25 cm, L. 34 cm, B. 17 cm. - Provenance: In private ownership for over 40 years. - Godchaux counts among the great animal sculptors of the 1st half of the 20th century, the so-called 'Animaliers'. After his studies at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris, he specialized in animal sculptures under the influence of the animal bronzes of Antoine-Louis Barye. From 1905 he exhibited regularly in the Salon of French artists. In 1925 he won the silver medal at the "Exposition internationale des Arts décoratifs et industriels modernes".
