Italy, 19th cent. Janus-headed god of sleep, backed by wings, depicted as a bust of an alert, graceful youth, with another sleeping face above. Min. dam. Total height 61 cm, w. 44.5 cm. - Italian sculptor, trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, studied with Berthel Thorvaldsen in Rome and was appointed professor at the Academy in Florence in 1832.
