Around 1960. bronze, greenish patinated. On the back sign. 'Schumann'. H. 28 cm. - The theme 'Mother and Child' or 'Om Mani' was published in 1950 in an edition of 60 small-format copies (h. 15 cm), in 1960 one bronze version and three variations in marble were created, a version from 1965 in marble bears the Tibetan title 'Om Mani'. Finally, in 1989, Schumann took up the theme in another bronze edition of 60 copies. - Literature: Fig. in exhibition cat. Pierre Schumann Skulpturen 1950-1991, ed. Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landesmuseum, Neumünster 1992, ill. p. 32 and p. 60, cat. no. 6. - German sculptor. Trained at the Hochschule f. Bildende Künste Hamburg under E. Scharff and at the Stuttgart Academy under O. Baum, 1954-1964 he stayed in Paris. Since 1955 he worked as a freelance artist in Hamburg in his studio at Lerchenfeld, 1974 he moved to Sagau-Kassedorf near Eutin, since 1964 he had another studio in Carrara. - Schumann created sculptures and wall designs, his preferred material was marble.
