1962. Oil/fibre board, 22 x 41,5 cm, lo. ri. sign. Brauer, on the reverse dat. 1962 and inscribed 'Champignon Rouge' and 'Rote Blume'. - Austrian multi-talented artist, one of the main exponents of the School of Fantastic Realism. B. studied until 1951at the Vienna acamedy, among others under R. C. Andersen and P. von Gütersloh. During that time he founded the so called Vienna School of Fantastic Realism together with E. Fuchs, R. Hauser and others. B. lived in Israel and France, making his living as a singer. He had his first one man show in Paris. Back in Vienna in 1964 his succees as painter and singer continued. B. created stage designs for the opera houses in Vienna, Paris and Zurich. In 1991 he began to design the Arik Brauer house in Vienna. 1986-97 he was professor at the Vienna academy. His style is characterised by an old master like love for detail with bright colours and fantastic subjects in sometimes surrealist settings.
