Sweden, Älvdalen. Early 19th cent. Square plinth, short profiled foot, bowl with protruding, stepped rim. - The 'Elvdals Porphyrverk', founded in 1787, was famous for its impressive vases, fireplaces and small decorative products. The working of the extremely hard stone required the greatest skill and established the excellent reputation of the porphyry factory. Dark brown porphyry with pale yellow-white sprinkles.
