M. was taught painting in the studio of P. Snayers in Brussels where he became member of the painter's guild in 1648. On intercession of Charles Le Brun M. was made painter to the court of Louis XIV in 1664. He painted the campaigns of the king and made designs for gobelins togethe with Le Brun.
