I. studied at the Dessau Bauhaus with Kandinsky, Klee and Feininger, followed by a study visit to Paris. He was a member of the artist associations 'Neue Gruppe' in Munich, 'Die Schanze' and 'Gruppe SW' in Münster. From 1953 he was active in Stuttgart.
