1876. Oil/canvas. 33,5 x 26,5 cm. Lo. le. sign. and dat. H. Salentin 76, framed under glass. Min. pigment losses. - German figure and history painter. S. learned the profession of nail smith. In 1845 he began self-taught painting. After drawing lessons in Cologne, he studied at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1849, and from 1853-56 he was a master student of W. Schadow. In 1901 he received the title of professor in Düsseldorf. He was one of the most popular painters of his time.
