KPM Berlin. Around 1906. Based on a painting by Otto Knille (1832-1898) from 1873. The picture is considered the main work of the Düsseldorf history painter and is in the National Gallery in Berlin. It shows Tannhäuser and Venus inside Venusberg. Tannhäuser has realised that the life in the sensual world of Venus no longer fulfils him. In vain, the goddess of love tries to hold back her knight. Polychrome painted porcelain. 43 x 53,5 cm. On the reverse side impressed sceptre mark over KPM and year letter F, incised mark 25-20, lower right indistinct painter's signature: A. Knye. -
