France. Around 1880. Depiction of an elegant young woman as a spinner. She wears a Renaissance dress with elaborately chiselled ornaments and holds a spindle in her left hand. Gilt Bronze; head, hands and parts of the spindle made of ivory, marble base. Figure: H. 33 cm, marble base: H. 3,5 cm. On the plinth rim sign: A. CARRIER-BELLEUSE. - Expertise: The authorisation for sale according to Art. 10 of Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 has been granted. No export outside the EU. - French sculptor. After his education as a chaser and goldsmith he studied decorative arts at the Petite École, from 1848 he was modeller for various English porcelain manufactories for example Minton and Wedgwood, 1855 he returned to Paris and worked as an extremely productive sculptor especially for decorative sculpture preferring antiques and contemporary topics.
