Oil/canvas. 33 x 47 cm. Lo. ri. sign. Hans Bartels and titl. VD 93, verso on frame exhibition label 'Ausstellung Gerstenberger Chemnitz and no. 2003' and gallery label 'Galerie von Negelein'. - Provenance: Galerie Gerstenberger, Chemnitz - Landscape and figure painter. B. was pupil of R. Hardorff and C. Oesterley in Hamburg before studying at the Düsseldorf academy under A. Schweitzer in 1876/77. He travelled extensively through Europe and settled in Hamburg in 1881. In 1885 he moved to Munich. Among his many awards are gold medals in Berlin, Paris, Munich, Vienna and Budapest.
