China. Qianlong period, around 1750. Porcelain with underglazed blue painting. Diam. 23 cm. Eight plates prof. rest. Each plate depicting a fisherman punting in a broad river landscape with pavilion next to pines and rocks, border with 6-flower border. - The "Nanking Cargo" was the well-documented ship "De Geldermalsen", which sank in 1752 on its voyage home. The contents were recovered by Captain Michael Hatcher and offered for sale at Christie's Amsterdam in the spring of 1986. In addition to some finds of metalwork, bronzes and gold, the amount of porcelain recovered was spectacular: it was more than 150,000 pieces and a great variety of forms of export porcelain. - Provenance: Estate Countess Finck von Finckenstein-Brinkama -
