In 1902 Max Klinger created his massive Beethoven sculpture from exquisite materials, which he showed for the first time at the exhibition of the Vienna Secession in Vienna (today in the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig). The small version of the half-figure in bronze shows Beethoven as an artistic genius with a clenched fist. - German painter, sculptor, draughtsman a. graphic artist, a main exponent of symbolism. K. studied since 1874 under K. Gussow in Karlsruhe a. Berlin. Since 1878 he exhibited at the Berlin academy, but went to Brussels in 1879 to continue his studies under E. Wauters.
