Ca. 1955. Watercolour and gouache. 50,5 x 68,5 cm. Lo ri. sign. H. Purrmann, matted and framed under glass. - Provenance: For decades in the collection of the consignor's parents; bequeathed to the consignor in 2005 - German painter and etcher, main master of the Matisse school in Germany. P. studied at the Munich Academy under F. von Stuck and G. Hackl. He was already a member of the Berlin Secession when he moved to Paris in 1906 to continue his training with H. Matisse. He soon became his right-hand man and built up the Académie Matisse together with the master. In 1935, P. took over as director of the Villa Romana in Florence.
