Early 1950s. Redish-yellow marble. H. 15 cm, w. 27 cm, d. 21 cm. The artist repeatedly took up the motif of the resting wildcat. The animal sculpture goes back to a model originally made of clay, there are both bronze casts and variants in different types of marble - Literature: Staak/Karrer/Wittboldt. Pierre Schumann. Skulpturen in Marmor und Bronze. Salzburg, 2003, p. 54f. - Provenance: From the estate of the artist Georg Engst - German sculptor. Trained at the Hochschule f. Bildende Künste Hamburg under E. Scharff and at the Stuttgart Academy under O. Baum, 1954-1964 he stayed in Paris. Since 1955 he worked as a freelance artist in Hamburg in his studio at Lerchenfeld, 1974 he moved to Sagau-Kassedorf near Eutin, since 1964 he had another studio in Carrara. - Schumann created sculptures and wall designs, his preferred material was marble.
