Lo. ri. inscribed Familie Zille, lo. le. dat. 15/5.03, dedicated at the upper margin. - Draughtsman, graphic artist, painter and photographer who is famous for his depictions of the Berlin working class milieu. Z. was trained as lithographer but also took lessons with Th. Hosemann at the Königliche Kunstschule in Berlin. At the turn of the century he began to develop his typical style. In 1903 he became member of the secession. He gained great popularity with his works for the magazin 'Simplicissimus'. In 1924 he became professor at the Berlin academy. Mus.: Berlin (Nat.-Gal.).
