B. studied at the Hochschule für Graphik und Buchkunst in Leipzig from 1979-84, then at its graphic workshops until 1986. During his time as a master student of Arno Rink until 1989, he formed a studio community with Neo Rauch and Axel Krause. In 1990 he received a travel grant to Italy and London, and many other trips followed. B. developed classical landscape motifs into organic non-representational forms.
