After an apprenticeship as a letterpress printer, H. studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden from 1967-72, among others with Gerhard Kettner. Since then he has been working as a freelance artist, at times also in Hungary. H. received several commissions for building-related works in mosaic. Today the artist lives and works again in the Künstlerhaus Dresden-Loschwitz, where he was also born in 1947.
