Invisible retouchings, relined. - Expertise: Authentication: Horst Ludwig, München, 4.11.1990. - German landscape and animal painter from a family of several artists. M. worked as a xylographer in Stuttgart until 1857 before moving to Munich and learning painting from his brother Johann. In Paris in 1865, he became acquainted with the works of Constant Troyon and subsequently also turned to animal painting. He was awarded the title of professor in 1889, and further honors followed.
