The motif typically combines the wide landscape preferred by Wijnants with a detailed dead tree and smaller plants in the foreground taken from the genre of forest floor still lifes. The virtuoso execution of the mold could be by the hand of Philipp Wouwerman. - Provenance: Mansion in Schleswig-Holstein. - Dutch landscape painter. W. mainly created views of the bushy dune landscape around Haarlem, often with expressive ancient trees in the foreground, whose austere charm he occasionally contrasted with the panorama of an Italianate landscape in the background.
