Tiffany Studios, New York. Around 1905. Patinated bronze, favrile glass. H. 36 cm, shade: H. 12 cm, diam. 18 cm. Foot marked on the underside. TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/426; shade on upper inner edge sign. L.C.T. Electrification in need of overhaul. Base with three leaf motifs, stem in the shape of a flower stalk with three protruding arms supporting the Favrile shade. Curved shade made of Favrile glass with an iridescent green-gold colour and an undulating pattern. One lamp holder. Electrified - Literature: The base is illustrated in: Duncan, A. Suffolk, 2019, p. 102, no. 398 - Charles Lewis Tiffany founded the luxury goods shop 'Tiffany & Young' together with John Young in 1837, which expanded in 1853 and was renamed 'Tiffany & Co. His son Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848 - 1933) was already active as a painter and industrial designer in the field of interior decoration and glass art in 1879 before he joined Tiffany. The company 'Louis C. Tiffany & Company' was founded in 1883 and 'Tiffany Glass & Decorating Company' was founded in 1887 (renamed Tiffany Studios in 1900), followed by the patent for Favrile glass in 1894. Tiffany received his first awards at the Chigago World's Fair in the 1890s and attracted international attention at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris, which led to the founding of further companies such as 'Tiffany Art Jewelry' in 1902.
