Early 1950s. Bronze, goldbrown patinated. 5 x 10 x 7 cm. Sign. Schumann. The motif of the resting wildcat goes back to a clay model and is one of the earliest bronze casts in Schumann's oeuvre. He later varied it in different sizes and types of marble - Literature: Karrer, Siegfried. Pierre Schumann, Skulpturen in Marmor und Bronze. Salzburg, 2003, p. 54/55 - German sculptor. Trained at the Hochschule f. Bildende Künste Hamburg under E. Scharff and at the Stuttgart Academy under O. Baum, 1954-1964 he stayed in Paris. Since 1955 he worked as a freelance artist in Hamburg in his studio at Lerchenfeld, 1974 he moved to Sagau-Kassedorf near Eutin, since 1964 he had another studio in Carrara. - Schumann created sculptures and wall designs, his preferred material was marble.
