Together with J. Ensor and T. van Rysselberghe he was co-founder of the avantgardist artrist's group 'Les XX' in Brussels in 1883. After the German invasion of Belgium in 1914 he moved to Lake Constance. S. mainly painted landscapes in impressionist and pointillist style. Mus.: Tournai, Altenburg.
