Lo. ri. autographed Tappert, lo. le. inscribed 'Glasdruck', framed under glass, uninspected out of frame. - German expressionist painter, draughtsman and graphic artist. After an apprenticeship as a tailor, T. studied at the Karlsruhe Academy from 1900-1903. Back in Berlin, he had his first solo exhibition at Cassirer in 1905 and opened an art school in Worpswede the following year. In 1910, he was one of the co-founders of the Neue Secession in Berlin, whose exhibitions brought together works by the 'Brücke' and 'Blauer Reiter' artist groups. Before and after the Second World War, he was a professor at Berlin universities for many years. His work focused on themes from nightlife and the demimonde of the city of Berlin.
