Around 1900. Marble. H. 63 cm. Verso inscribed Houdon. Min. chipped. The bust shows the Parisian salonnière Juliette Récamier (1777-1849), of whom the French sculptor Joseph Chinard (1756-1813) created several versions in different materials. The present bust was created after Chinard's marble bust in the Musée des Beaux-arts, Lyon (1804-1808), and shows Madame Récamier in an antique representation with her head tilted to the side and her hair pinned up with the help of scarves and hairbands -
