Coloured woodcut cycle to the poem ‘Waldlieder’ by Nikolaus Lenau. - German artist, writer and publisher. L. was a self-taught artist and joined the Hamburg Secession as an author in 1919. In 1924 he founded the publishing house 'Turmpresse', which led to reprisals by the National Socialists as early as 1933. As part of the 'Degenerate Art' campaign, several of his works were removed from the Hamburger Kunsthalle in 1937.
