1901/02. Oil/canvas. 75,5 x 125,5 cm. Small rest. Folkerts had several opportunities to travel on imperial training ships. In 1901, one of these voyages on the S.M.S. Charlotte took him to Constantinople, among other places. On this occasion, he helped extinguish a city fire and was awarded two medals by the Sultan. - Exhibitions: The painting was exhibited: Poppe Folkerts. From 1897 he was able to study under C. Saltzmann with the help of a scholarship, in 1902 he continued his studies at the Berlin academy under F. Kallmorgen and in 1903 he became a master student of L. Dettmann. On the recommendation of A. von Werner, he was able to travel as far as the Mediterranean on sailing school ships in 1900 and 1901. In 1906 he exhibited together with E. Nolde, H. Arp and H. P. Feddersen in the Kiel Art Hall, but he also exhibited at the Great Dresden Art Exhibition and the Glass Palace Exhibition in Munich.
