Meissen. Designed 1747, made early 19th cent. Porcelain, coloured painted. H. 18 - 19 cm. Model no. 1234 or 907, farmer's wife with crossed swords mark. Min. chipped. Farmer and farmer's wife each sit on a terrain plinth and hold the open lid of a jug with a sculptural garland of flowers - German sculptor and modeller, learned in England the casting of plumb, brass and steel, worked after his return to Dresden 4 years for the court sculptor Vinache and entered 1735 the Meissen porcelain manufactory a s an assistant of J. J. Kaendler, he then became Kaendler's first employee and was envolved significantly in the development of numerous masterpieces.
