Around 1918. Bronze, brown patinated. Kormoran: H. 42 cm, round stone plinth: H. 2 cm. Sign. Krieger. Large standing Comoran, the head is pointing straight ahead, the feet are parallel. - In the Münchner Neueste Nachrichten of 1928, his bird sculptures were praised as follows: "Krieger seems to be developing more and more into a specialist for bird depictions..in his bird sculptures in particular, the artist shows a mastery not only of the living model and the material, but above all of a completely unique formal language, which is hardly given to any other contemporary in this field..thus the sculptures appear stylised and yet extremely lively. The characteristic features of each animal are perfectly captured" (quoted from cat. rais. After an apprenticeship as a decorative painter, Krieger studied briefly at the Kunstgewerbeschule München in 1906/07 and trained as a self-taught sculptor from 1901. From 1907 he participated in the exhibitions of the Munich Secession, the large Berlin art exhibitions and from 1937-1944 in the annual Great German Art Exhibition at the Haus der Kunst.
