Bronze. 14 x 29 x 13,5 cm. Sign. Jos. Pallenberg. - German sculptor, one of the best-known and most productive animal sculptors of the first half of the 20th century, trained at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, travelled extensively, including to the zoos in Detroit and Cincinnati, and created several works for the Hagenbeck Zoo, among others. As an artist who worked ‘scientifically’, he not only maintained a small private zoo in his studio in Düsseldorf, but also owned an extensive anatomical collection of skeletons, skulls and natural casts, which were donated to the Löbbecke Museum in Düsseldorf after his death.
