Terracotta, hollow back, dark brown coloured. H. 17 x w. 14,5 x d. 7 cm, cream-coloured wooden base: H. 3.5 cm. Verso monogr. RH (incised). Hexagonal mask-like head in the archaic formal language typical of the artist, with a round mouth with bulging lips, round, deep-set eyes and a ‘spiritual’ third eye in a halo on the forehead - German painter, graphic artist, sculptor a. ceramicist, after serving in World War I he made a commercial education, by founding an art shop he Hamburg he came in contact with E. Nolde, E.-L. Kircher, K. Schmidt-Rottluff u. E. Heckel a. started to create art himself, defamed as 'degenerate' by the Nazis he retired to Niebüll.
