Music 47, lo. le. inscribed epreuve d'artiste, framed under glass, uninspected out of frame. - Born in Austria-Hungary, M. worked in Austria, Croatia, Spain, Italy and France. He studied at the Zagreb and Madrid academies from 1930. After completing his studies, he joined the resistance in Venice and was deported to Dachau concentration camp in 1944. From 1952 he maintained studios in Venice and Paris. The dominant artistic themes were the landscape and people of Dalmatia, but also repeatedly the experiences of Dachau. M. exhibited at the Documenta and won the graphics prize at the Venice Biennale. Lit.: Vollmer- Bénézit.
