2002. Stoneware, with thinly brushed matt white engobe. H. 28 x 40 x 30 cm. Monogrammed and dated GB 2002. Vessel in the shape of an alembic (= helmet-like lid of a distillation vessel) with an irregular opening and incised linear decoration. The source of inspiration for the unusual vessel shape was probably medieval alchemy, in which the alembic was considered a miniature cosmos - British ceramic artist, one of the most important contemporary representatives of his field, studied painting at the Lincoln School of Art and ceramics at the Central School of Art and taught at Goldsmiths College and the Royal College of Art. After figurative beginnings in his art, he increasingly worked in more abstract forms, influenced by the surrealists Giacometti, Arp and Brancusi. Numerous solo and group exhibitions in Great Britain and continental Europe
