Bronze, patinated. H. 42 cm x w. 44 cm x d. 11,5 cm. Signed A.H. Hussmann, foundry mark BILDGIESSEREI KRAAS BERLIN. Hussmann was a master at depicting statues of horses and riders. This is a late work by the artist based on the larger-than-life statue 'Vollblut', which can be seen today on Hußmannplatz in Fürstenberg. - German sculptor, student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, pupil of W. Friedrich and P. Meyerheim, after his studies he was appointed professor at the Berlin Academy and had his own studio. Hussmann was one of the most important animal sculptors of the 20th century and created numerous works of lifelike animal replicas, mainly bronze and porcelain sculptures, which formed his life's work Lit.: Thieme-Becker 17, p.182
