Around 1980. Bronze, brown patinated. H. 21 x 27 x 21 cm. Artist's signature on verso, foundry mark: GUSS BARTH ELMENHORST. Edelmann depicts the elderly couple Philemon and Baucis as a symbol of deep love and a bond that lasts until death. According to the ancient Greek myth, in gratitude for their hospitality, the gods granted the ageing couple the wish that they would not have to part even at the end of their lives and transformed them into two trees - Painter, graphic artist a. sculptor. E. began an apprenticeship as lithographer that he could not finish because of military service. After the war he studied at the Hamburg academy under W. Grimm and I. Hauptmann.
