China. Republic Period (1912-1949), early 20th cent. Porcelain with polychrome paint. H. 53,5 cm. Sign. Wang Qi, two seals of the artist, seal mark 'Taozhai'. On the front a large motif with a company of scholars in front of a large screen under a pine tree. Verso large inscription, signed and inscribed 'Xichang taosan ren wang qi yu zhushan kedi' - Chinese porcelain painter and outstanding example of Fencai painting of the Republic Period, member of the artist’s group 'Eight Friends of Zhushan' (珠山八友), especially famous for his fine figural depictions.
