Copenhagen. 1925-32. Sterling silver, marked 925 DENMARK STERLING, manufactory mark GEORG JENSEN, MM: JR, design no. 697. Round, elegant bowl with slightly recessed mirror and flared rim. H. 4 cm, diam. 21 cm, weight approx. 421 g. - Johan Gudmann Rohde (1856-1935), painter and designer, played an important role in the development of applied arts in Denmark and designed furniture as well as several significant silver designs for Georg Jensen - Literature: J. Drucker. Georg Jensen 20th Century Designs.2002, p. 81 - Danish silversmith, 1895-1901 Studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen, then worked in the studio of the Danish court jeweler Michelsen. In 1904 opening of his own studio in Copenhagen where Jensen first produced works in the Art Nouveau style. Soon after he founded the company Georg Jensen, which is famous for their designs in the functional style of the Danish industrial designs.
