China, c. 1730 (Yongzheng period 1723-1735). Porcelain, decorated with famille-rose-colours. Centre decorated with crowned coat of arms of the "Republic of the United Netherlands" held by two lions, beneath them the monogram of the Dutch East Indian Company (VOC). Rim with the motto of the Republic of the United Netherlands (concordia res parvae crescunt) and dated 1728. - The VOC did let produce the service to commemorate the launch of it"s new coinage for trading use in the Far East (1728) and did let decorate the service after the front of these coins. Other pieces of this service are located for instance in The Victoria and Albert Museum/London, in the Museum Boymans-van Beuningen/Rotterdam, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art/New York and the Musees Royaux d"Art et d"Histoire/Brüssel. - Min. traces of age. Diam. 23 cm.
