China, c. 1770 (Qianlong-period 1736-1796). Gilded bronze. Seated in front of a detachable flame mandorla on a conical open worked base with reliefed corners. Verso painted. Inscription at the base ("Qianlong-period"). Mark on the inside of the base, probably naming the sponsor. - According to the tradion this bronze Buddha once belonged to a small number of identical sculptures that are believed to have been made especially for the hundreds of altars within the Forbidden City. - On wooden base. Min. worn, attribute is missing. H. 21,5 cm
