Oil/canvas, 81 x 100 cm, sign. a. dat. lo. ri. Ivo Hauptmann 1920, on the stretcher inscribed "Hiddensee, Strand mit Badenden" as well as exhibiton labels of the Freie Sezession Berlin 1920 a. the Galerie Möller, on the frame label of the Kunsthaus Hamburg, min. rest. - Prov.: Estate of Hilde von Lang, managing director and publisher of the German weekly newspaper "Die Zeit", partner in life of Gerd Bucerius, founder of "Die Zeit" and patron of the arts. - After Hauptmann started studying painting in Paris among others under Signac and Serusier in 1903 he developed his characteristic neo-impressionist early style. Up to the 1910s he tended to use light pale colours, before at the end of this creative period between 1920 and 1923 his work climaxed in glowing colourful paintings. - Landscape a. figure painter, studied in Paris, under L. Corinth in Berlin a. at the Weimar Academy, eldest son of Gerhard Hauptmann, friends with O. Müller, P. Signac, R.M.
