China, 18th cent. (Qing-dynasty 1644-1911). Bronze with strewn spots of gold. Rectangular round bodied form with stilised bird handles on four feet. The cover with a fretwork decor and a handle in the shape of a mythological creature. At the wall relief with cranes and deer underneath pine trees, bamboo and prune. Probably once in a palace collection or a noble mansion. Six-character Xuande-mark. Prov.: Ehem. Slg. Dr. Jacobo Morf, Stabsarzt König Ludwigs II. von Bayern. On a richly carved wooden base. H. 26,5 cm without base.
