China, 19th cent. (Qing-dynasty 1644-1911). Tinted bone, partly coloured and combined. Tall figurine of bodhisattva Guanyin in a flowing robe riding on an lion. The right hand holding the characteristic vase with the elixir of life, the left hand raised for a peaceful gesture (Abhaya mudra). The head of the Guanyin with a flaming mandorla. The lion with naturalistically drawn fur and richly carved decoration. Min. traces of age. H. 53 cm.
