1974, aquatint in colours, 50 x 37 cm, lo. ri. autographed André Masson, lo. le. inscribed "e.a.", some matburn, framed under glass, uninspected out of frame. - From the series "Les amants célèbres". - French painter a. graphic artist, studied at the Brussels academy a. at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under P. Baudoin, he began in a cubist style but soon turned to surrealism, by fasting, sleep deprivation a. drugs he tried to get direct access to his subconciousness which he painted in his so called "automatic drawings", during the Nazi time he emigrated to the USA where his work heavily influenced painters of abstract expressionism like J.
