A rare pair of figures 'Pilgrims'
Lot-No. 587
Meissen, middle of 18th cent. Polychrome painted figures on a rocaille base, each one with a pilgrim bar and attributes. Verso at the base faint mark with crossed swords in u'glaze blue. With some professional rest. H. 18 - 19 cm. - The offered pair is rarer than Kaendlers famous 'pilgrimage lady' and her male compagnion from 1744. (Vgl. Meister, Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts, Frankfurt/Main, 1967, S. 387-389). The black and purple cape and the corresponding hat nevertheless demonstrate the close relationship, even if the gestures and the costumes of the present pair are clearly influenced by the group of shepherds figures.
