Meissen, 1735-38. In the centre a large amorial crest 'Sulkowski and Stain zu Jettingen' with Indian strewn flowers. The waved rim with 'Sulkowski Ozier' moulded decoration (partly prof. rest.). Crossed swords in u'glaze blue and impressed former's sign. 49 x 41,5 cm. - The Sulkowski service is among the most prominent and important Meissen services of the 18th cent. It was the manufactory's first privately comissioned armorial service, ordered by the Polish count Alexander Joseph Sulkowski (1695-1762), one of the king's closest friends. - Lit.: Hamburger Museum f.
