19th cent. Bronze with dark brown patina, figure h. 55 cm, black marble plinth h. 5 cm, 25,5 x 23 cm, num. A1151. - The Farnese Hercules is one of the most famous sculptures of ancient times and is part of the Farnese collections, which is now exhibited in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The original is the Hellenistic sculpture attributed to Lysippos 320 BC. The sculpture shows the standing Hercules after his heroic feats, with the fur of the Nemean lion, in his right hand the three apples of the Hesperides.
