Japan, around 1900 (Meiji-period 1868-1912). Silver with translucent enamel and polychrome inlays (e.g. ivory and mother-of-pearl). Bellied box with cover in the shape of a small bag on 4 globe feet. Both sides with rectangular inlaid reserve, depicting mythological scenes (small losses). The wall and cover with fine enamelled decoration. Inscribed at the bottom 'Au Docteur Paulun son reconnaissant malade, Dr. Ed. H. Blanc, Shanghai 1902.'. H. 13 cm.
