Meissen, 19th cent. Design by Johann Joachim Kaendler from around 1774. A tall and richly painted group with overall 5 figures on a triangular stepped base with rocks. Depiction of the 3 Parcae - the Antique goddesses of destiny - Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos with putto. Clotho is spinning the thread of life while Lachesis is measuring ist length. Atropos is finally cutting the thread but is forcefully stopped by the winged Chronos, the God of time. Crossed swords in u'glaze blue with pommel, incised 'No. 33'. Min. rest. H. 38 cm. - The group was designed for the so-called 'Russian Order', which was commissioned by Tzarina Catherine II. between 1772 and 1775.
