Sino-Tibetan, 18th cent. (Qing-dynasty 1644-1911). Gilt bronze. 8-armed female deity with 4 faces on a large lotus throne. The both main hands performing apana mudra, the other hands holding Buddhist symbols. Fine facial expression with serene downcast eyes. The bottom sealed. H. 20,5 cm. - Mahapratisara is worshipped as a protecting and prosperity granting Bodhisattva. She is considered to be an emanation of Buddha Ratnasambhava, one of the 5 Meditation Buddhas. From Tibet and Nepal her cult spread out over China and Japan, where she is still known as 'Daizuigu'.
