Menna, Cologne, 26.10.1953; private collection Bregenz, Austria. - Dutch landscape painter from a family of artists. He was probably trained by his brother Cornelis. S. settled in Utrecht in 1632. he repeatedly assumed offices in the local painter's guild, the schilderscollege. He travelled extensively along the rivers Moselle a. Rhine, the landscapes of which became distinctive for his paintings. His tropographical accuracy determined the city council of Utrecht to commission him maps. S. adopted different styles a. continously develop until the end of his life.
